Best of Grunge

Alternative music changed forever when Grunge hit the scene in the early 90s. The rock scene was becoming increasingly stale and artificial: the artistic diversity of the 60s was long gone, while the hard rock scene of the 70s was slowly withering away, leaving room for the 80s, when rock was either being contaminated with pop and electronic music or going underground. Groups like Nirvana or Pearl Jam boast their origins within the underground music scene, but they were able to transcend the angst an aggressiveness of their sound and create beautiful melodies that took them far beyond the small clubs and basements where they were playing for small but dedicated followings. Above all, Kurt Cobain, the charismatic front-man of the aforementioned band “Nirvana” became the reluctant poster child of a generation, embodying the spirit of grunge in a unique way. On one hand, he was a chaotic, anti-authoritarian punk kid, but on the other hand, he was an introspective individual with a passion for poetry and personal journals. Grunge had a though shell, but there were lots of beautiful and fragile emotion under its core: this is why this music appealed to so many people and truly redefined a new direction for the rock and roll ethos. All of a sudden, everything got more raw, honest and authentic: no more hair bands and long guitar solos, but gritty guitar tones, screamed lyrics and an introspective blend of poetry, creating a bittersweet sound! This mixtape is a great gift for all music lovers.
