The 1970s saw a seamless mix of rock and pop. Attitude and a refined taste come together in this hot collection.
As rock music became extremely popular in the 70s, the genre became a true dominating force in the mainstream industry. While bands became a bit more technical and polished, rock music was starting to separate in different currents: some fans loved the edgy sound of bands such as Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin, while others loved the complex and intricate plot twists made famous by progressive or psychedelic rock acts the likes of King Crimson, Pink Floyd or Genesis, among others. Another branch of rock and roll music found its way up to the charts, rather choosing to contaminate itself with pop and upbeat melodies instead of going hardcore or too complex. Artists such as Bachman Turner Overdrive, Boston or Status Quo were rock bands at heart, but their songs are extremely catchy and direct, appealing to a broad audience and transcending the boundaries of the rock and roll scene. In the late 70s, some rock and pop acts even dared to flirt with dance music, namely artists such as Ram Jam, who even appealed to disco fans with her hit, "Black Betty". Solo artists such as Bruce Springsteen were just at the beginning of their career (he would later move on to become one of the most influential musical artists in the 80s) while performers such as Elton John and David Bowie were blending pop and rock with moving songs such as "Rocket Man" or "Space Oddity", among others. Give the gift of energetic melodies with this hot mixtape!
