Back in the early 80s, the blossoming world of rap music and the rock scene were almost like rival gangs, with seemingly nothing in common. It was almost like going at a party, where girls and boys would stand on separate sides of the room without talking to each other. At some point though, the walls and the tension started to crumble, particularly after rock and roll veteran outfit “Aerosmith” joined forces with rap legends Run DMC for an explosive rendition of “Walk This Way”, a song that is often described as a pioneering track in the rock / rap crossover music. The hilarious video of the song is interesting to watch, as it was a parody of the supposed animosity between the rock and rap world. Overtime, the concept of blending rap and rock did not sound so extravagant anymore, and it really did not take that long before a set of forward-thinking artists decided to break the rules and blend the genres. Groups such as Rage Against The Machine or Linkin Park defeated all expectations, creating a unique blend of hip-hop flow and massive rock tones. This mixtape is a perfect gift for those who love adrenaline-fueled music with lots of guts.
